Greetings
from our President Stephen Kimber.

Thank
you to everyone who has supported us in 2007, in particular
those who took part in our 30th Jog. What a great day by
all. I have presented certificates at one participating
school and will try to visit as many as possible.
On
6th February we presented the cheques for £4100 each
to the two charities we nominated as beneficiaries -CLIC
Sargent and Wilow Wood Hospice of the race proceeds.
We
have just held a sucessful racenight as part of the Tameside
Together Iniative with our fellow Tameside Clubs. All proceeds
wil go to Rotary Foundation. Looking forward we have the
Stroke Awareness Day in April and a wheelchair walk for
some housebound in May/June.
Recently
I took the opportunity to visit two of the schools who participated
in our Juniors Speak competition in October. Along with
John Burgess and Alan Conchie we visited Charlesworth Primary
and All Saints in Old Glossop. All Saints were the overall
winners and Charlesworth has the best Vote of Thanks in
the competion. We were made most welcome and were pleased
to see the teams achievements announced in front of the
whole school. All Saints keep the trophy for one year until
the competion next year. There are four other schools to
be visited over the coming weeks. We were impressed with
the quality and variety of the speaking.
The
club has just sponsored three local students at the weekend
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards course held near Buxton.
We hope to sponsor three more students in May 2008 on the
next course.
We
also have just held the 30th Glossop Jog and I must
thank everyone for how smoothly it ran (excuse the pun).
CLIC Sargent and Willow Wood Hospice are the main beneficiaries
this year and it was encouraging to see so many people participating.
My thanks again to you all, especially the childen. As
it was the 30th Jog we had letters presented by both the
RI and RIBI Presidents by our District Governor Mike Payne,
along with a 30th birthday cake by the Mayor of High Peak
Jean Wharmby. To date the Jog has raised over £162K
over its 30 year history. (Figure updated Feb 2008)
