day 10 families are told their child has cancer. As the
UK's leading children's cancer charity, CLIC Sargent is
the only organisation to offer them all round care and support.
Willow
Wood Hospice.
Opened
in May 1999 and set in a tranquil, leafy location in Ashton-u-Lyne,
the Hospice provides Palliative Care to those suffering
with life threatening illnesses. The Hospice is a place
of warmth and comfort set in a homely environment which
is often a relief to this who have spent months or even
years in and out of hospital. The Hospice was designed with
the needs of the patients and their families in mind and
provides a warm and cheerful atmosphere.
This
year is a special year as its the 30th Glossop Jog. The
Jog was the brainchild of Peter Wood who being Club President
at the time raised £1190 for Muscular Dystrophy. The
Jog has raised over £153,000 in its history. Peter
has run in every Jog except one when an accident prevented
him from doing so. This year he will be the starter of the
race and then join in for a few laps.
The
Jog is presently organised by Barrie Powney and his Jog
Committee who do an excellent job in making sure all the
arrangements are in place.

Jog
Presentation Evening 2006
Wednesday
8th February 2006

On
Wednesday the 8th February, members and guests gathered
at Windy Harbour for our annual Jog Presentation. This is
the night when we invite teachers from the local schools
that have taken part in the Jog, along with the leaders
of organizations, clubs and other groups that have taken
part.
The guest of honour was Sheila Hynes from the “Kingfisher
Riding School for the Disabled Group”; she was with
us to receive a cheque on behalf of the school.
In all we had about 30 guests present that made it a full
house at Windy Harbour, the tables ran the full length of
the room and the trophies that were to be presented, were
on display by the top table.
Barrie Powney, our Jog organizer took control of the presentation
ceremony and after a few words of thanks to all who had
played a part in the jog, the presentations were made,
First was the cheque for £8,000 presented to Sheila
Hynes the representative of the main beneficiary for this
year’s Jog. Sheila was amazed at the amount that had
been raised and was just about speechless.
Other awards were for the most laps run, male, 16 by Peter
Budd, female, 14 by Amanda Quansah.
The team awards went to Ladies, Glossop Army Cadets, Men,
Deanah, Mixed, Evade.
The schools cup for the school raising the most money again
went to The Duke of Norfolk who raised £5,200, and
Rebecca Heard, a pupil at the school getting the shield
for the most money raised by an individual, £257.
The last was a special award that was made to Mr. &
Mrs. Mike and Cath Cox for the support they have given their
children, Louise and Matthew over the last ten years they
have been at the Duke of Norfolk School. They have raised
over £2,000 during the children’s stay at the
school
So for this tremendous achievement, they were presented
with Rotary’s Community Service Award.
The president ended the evening by thanked everyone who
had taken part and made this event such a great success
and to Barrie and Brenda Powney for all the work they had
put into running the Jog for a number of years.
