The
Rotary Club of East Manchester had its inaugral Meeting
on 15th December 1958. From then onwards it played
a very significant role in the life of the area, contributing
to community activities, interational affairs and
highly successful fundraising.
It
remains an example of what can be acheived through
Rotary. The photos below give some indication of what
can be acheived.
The
Club entertained 5 young Soviet burns victims in 1989.
They were badly injured when a Siberian pipeline burst
into flames and had been brought to Withington hospital
for treatment

Handing
over cheques was a regular feature of the Club.
The
Club supported local organisations, seen here on a canal
trip with a party from Morningside
The
club members received an award for their successful
fundraising in 1980. These contributed, through Rotary
International, to the elimination of polio programme
and to eye camps in India.
Mini-vans
like this have always helped the very stretched health
authority provision.
